KMA has a close relationship with the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) in exchanging seismic data and technology. Based on these cooperative relationships, KMA receives seismic data in real time, from 42 stations of the JMA and 12 stations of the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention of Japan (NIED), to reduce earthquake disasters in Korea and Japan. In return, KMA also sends Japan the seismic data in real time, from its 10 stations. The Administration is also trying to exchange seismic data with the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) in near real time.
KMA obtains seismic data from 7 array-type seismic stations of the CTBTO (Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization) installed around the Korean Peninsula as well. In addition, the Administration has agreed with the IRIS (Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) to exchange seismic data and technology of providing data to the public.
