Volcano

The National Earthquake and Volcano Center (NEVC) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) is focused on issuing volcano eruption information and volcanic ash advisories or warnings for volcanic activities around the Korean Peninsula. The center releases volcano eruption information, including the eruption time, the height of the volcanic ash, and the volcanic ash-contaminated area.

In order to reduce volcano disasters, it monitors volcano activities in and around the Korean Peninsula for 24 hours a day, and issues timely warnings and information. The center carries out several jobs: monitoring volcanic activities around the Peninsula, especially the volcanoes, which could affect the Korean Peninsula within the Tokyo VAAC (Volcanic Ash Advisory Center) region, analyzing the state of volcanic ash dispersion to estimate how far the volcanic ash spreads based on remote sensing data and a model of expected volcanic ash dispersion, and issuing timely volcanic eruption information and warnings.
